I made a sign for our house – Nant Yr Wydd. It was done on a piece of birch wood and then triple varnished to weather proof it. Birch is a particularly good wood to use because once it’s been properly sanded down it has a small grain which shows the fire writing off to beautiful effect.
It was the first piece I did and took about 3 hours in total from blank wood to varnished sign.
The birch plaque is about 13 by 5 inches and cost me £10, so you can see the sort of price of wood sections. Smaller pieces are a little cheaper and larger ones are quite a bit more.
If you’d like a sign written for your house or room I would charge £25 for a similar sized one. Whatever size sign you’d like we can work out a price for the wood and the fire writing.
Leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.
